Week 14 MLS Picks
Thankfully, the turnaround we were looking for came in the midweek games. Our best week of the season isn’t something we expect to duplicate just three days later, but let’s see if we can get a little win streak going now that we’re back in the black. The official league injury report came out this afternoon, let’s jump into the Week 14 picks.
Inter Miami
To Win + O 2.5 total goals (-125)
Lionel Messi is off the injury report heading into Saturday’s match against DC United. Since the beginning of March, Inter Miami games have gone over 2.5 goals in 14 of 16 matches across all competitions. That includes Wednesday’s 0-0 draw against Orlando City SC that Messi sat out. Locking in this parlay and continuing to ride the Messi train with the two unit hammer.
LA Galaxy
ML +200
Joseph Paintsil is questionable with a hamstring issue, but the Galaxy still far outweigh Charlotte FC even in his potential absence. Charlotte will be without DP Liel Abada themselves, and we like getting LA at 2-to-1 to bring home all three points from a traditionally weak Charlotte FC side.
Nashville SC
ML -110
Back to Nashville for the third straight matchday. They’re coming off a midweek win over a shorthanded Toronto FC and entering Saturday afternoon’s matchup with an interim coach after firing Gary Smith. Wild stuff. But more importantly, Atlanta United are coming to town without their two best players, as both Thiago Alamada and Geogios Giakoumaki will miss tomorrow’s match. Even though Nashville has been disappointing this season, they should be able to take care of business at home here.
Houston Dynamo
ML -135
Gross, we know. We’ll make it quick. No Arriola, Illarramendi and Fraser for Dallas, in addition to the ongoing long-term absences for Velasco, Pomykal and Jesus. Even on short rest, Houston are deserved favorites. Begrudgingly, we’ll take the orange team to win.
San Jose Earthquakes
ML +130
The Quakes have looked like a much more cohesive team since the arrival of Hernan Lopez a few weeks back. They were leading Portland 2-0 on the road on Wednesday before a questionable red card allowed Portland to storm back for the 4-2 win. Orlando City having to come cross-country for this late-night match isn’t going to help their chances, and we don’t think that the field has caught up to how important the acquisition of Lopez really is to the outlook in San Jose. Quakes to win.
