Week 4 MLS Picks
If you tuned into Wednesday’s episode, you know that last week went well around these parts. Headed into Sunday we were poised for a big week if the Galaxy could pull through on the road for us but LA only managed a draw and Joseph Paintsil was held without a goal. At the end of the day, we’re back in the black for the first time in a calendar year. Hopefully we can keep cooking here in Week 4 of the MLS regular season. The official league injury report came out this afternoon so let’s get to the picks.
Philadelphia Union
Over 5.5 corner kicks (+115)
Tough to justify going away from getting even better odds on corner kicks for Austin’s opponent this week. As we discussed last week, Austin FC gave up the most corner kicks in MLS last season at 6.5 conceded per game. No other team gave up more than 5.9 per game.
To begin this season Austin has given up 37 corner kicks in just three games. It’s still a small sample, but while this team is playing more defensively and conceding over 12 corners per game, it’s impossible to pass this up at plus-money. Two units on Philly corners.
Atlanta United
ML -115
We’re also going right back to the Five Stripes at home this week. Their offense opened up the throttle against New England behind the Giakoumakis hat trick. Now they’ll host a struggling Orlando City SC side that bowed out of CCC this week with a 4-2 loss to Tigres.
It’s way too early to say this Orlando team won’t meet the heightened preseason expectations, but with the congested schedule still a big factor, we’ll keep riding with Atlanta’s offense this week and just take the money line.
LA Galaxy
ML -130
Welp. Guess we’re just kind of running this all back. Once again to the Galaxy, who couldn’t quite steal a win late on the road at Nashville and settled for a 2-2 draw. This week they’ll welcome last year’s top seed in the Western Conference, St. Louis City SC.
After stealing a point in Austin last week, City will be without Eduard Löwen this week. It was already going to be a challenge for St Louis to go into Carson and pick up points against this new look Galaxy squad. Now they’ll be without the engine of their midfield. Give us the Galaxy to grab all three points at home.
FC Cincinnati
ML +185
Editing this article early Saturday afternoon with a late addition to this week’s picks. The Revs injury report just dropped and it is extensive. Even with Cincy coming off of a midweek CCC loss to Rayados, they’ve got just one player (Nwobodo) on theirs. There’s a significant enough gap in talent between these two rosters if things break wrong for New England injury-wise that we’re comfortable throwing a unit on the defending Supporters Shield champs on the road on Sunday.
Goal Scorers
Every week we’ll pick a few of our favorite goal scoring options in the betting market. Here are the Week 4 shouts.
Lorenzo Insigne (+200)
Federico Bernardeschi (+400)
Denis Bouanga (+140)
Hany Mukhtar (+210)
Ahmal Pellegrino (+320)
Petar Musa (+200)
Joseph Paintsil (+200)
Matias Coccaro (+275)
Monsef Bakrar (+160)
